HISTORY OF DENIM

In this blog, I am writing history of denim to enlighten you about this ubiquitous product.
Late 19th century:
Although still debatable, few says that denim was born in Nimes, France under a serendipitous attempt by French fabric weavers. These weavers used indigo dye to color the fabric and created a blue and white product then known as Serge de Nimes. Jeans wore usually by miners, cowboys in the late 19th century to early 20th century. Indigo is a natural dye exported to European countries from India.
The indigo dyed denim is attributed to the works of Jacob Davis, a renowned tailor and Levi Strauss, a San Francisco based retailer. Davis and Strauss initially made jeans in two types of fabric, brown duck and blue denim. The 501 Levi's style was originated in 1890.
Early 20th century:
Hollywood helped romanticize the blue jeans in the early 19th century and with time this fabric has become a daily part of our lives. The denim was adopted by workers especially cowboys and miners of the USA. It became famous because it was durable and cheap. At that time , it was known popularly as 'jean'.
1940's
Denim production was declined during the World Wars era due to poor investment, capital and loss of employees in the war. However, after 1940's the perception of jeans has changed and it's use has risen to a casual nature.
1960's
During 1960's, the jeans was famously adopted by Hippie Revolution and also student began wearing jeans in colleges and it became an official college wear. During these times, it also became famous in other parts of the world such as India and other parts of Asia.
2000's
The jeans has become an integral part of the people around the world and almost people of all regions adopt this fashion and jeans has also become an office wear. Moreover, now there is a rise of designer denims and shredded jeans which has become trendy among youth.
